Vendor Spotlight: Missing Link Artistry

Vendor Spotlight: Missing Link Artistry

I am a multidisciplinary artist and graphic designer, currently
located in Marion. I’ve always been fascinated by folklore; whether
it’s the creatures, the morals in the stories, or how these often dark
stories are passed down through time. In a similar vein, I love analog
horror, psychological thrillers, and things that make you think.
Outside of making art, I love food, travel, and live music (especially
supporting local acts) as ways to nourish my creative side.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more and more vocal in supporting
various marginalized communities and standing up against injustices
around me. My identity is inherently political in a few ways, and as
an artist I can’t not be hyperaware of the world around me. At my
core, though, I try not to take life too seriously. I’m known for
harvesting out-of-context quotes from conversations with friends and
turning them into stickers. I’m a huge animal lover, and try to find a
little whimsy wherever I can.

I also struggle with treatment-resistant mental health and chronic
physical disability. Through my work in this realm, regardless of
medium, I attempt to portray the realities of living with
treatment-resistant issues while also bringing a little levity.
Recently, I described my printmaking style as “German Expressionism by
way of a lack of dexterity and severe mental health issues”. This all
culminates in my brand, Missing Link Artistry: socially aware
cryptids, a retro vibe, and thoroughly offbeat humor.

Vendor Spotlight: H. Shields Art

Vendor Spotlight: H. Shields Art

Hello, my name is Hailee Shields and I am an artist based in Iowa. I have been creating art for as long as I can remember. My creative journey has taken me through a wide range of mediums—from traditional watercolor and acrylic painting to digital art using Procreate—I even had the opportunity to lead a local craft club for two years, helping others explore mediums and find their own artistic voices.

My work is best described as psychedelic, whimsical, and extremely colorful. I love building entire worlds filled with color, curiosity, and surreal charm—where humans might have inanimate objects for heads, and reality feels just a little more magical.

While I have a soft spot for animals and frequently takes on pet portrait commissions, My true niche lies in crafting vibrant, dreamlike scenes, trippy patterns, and unique characters that defy the ordinary. I create seamless patterns and designs, available on a wide range of items, blending my love for visual storytelling with functional art.

My use of bright and bold colors is more than just an aesthetic choice—it’s a statement. Having faced my share of dark times, art is a way bring light, color, and joy into the world. My work celebrates resilience, creativity, and the beauty of standing out.

Though Iowa may not be the first place people think of when it comes to psychedelic art or rave culture, I proudly create art that represents the growing creative energy here in the Midwest. I am heavily influenced by techno, drum and bass, deep dub, and riddim music, as well as my deep love for nature and good vibes, I hope to make art that bridges the gap between organic beauty and electric energy—reminding us that creativity can thrive anywhere.

Vendor Spotlight: Ultraterrestrial

Vendor Spotlight: Ultraterrestrial

Ultraterrestrial was conceived through a synthesis of inspiration from two sources. The word "ultraterrestrial" in Philip K Dick's novel "Valis" is defined as "a superior, non-human entity of natural or supernatural origin that is indigenous to planet earth." In other words, aliens are among us! At the same time, trademarks from the 20s, 30s, and 40s, made for everyday products like shampoo and spark plugs were filled with wit and imagination. Ultraterrestrial was born to make fun, colorful products inspired by these passions, including stickers, pinback buttons, keychains, jewelry, tshirts, and artwork for those wanting to adorn themselves and their lives with things that are cartoony, colorful, and perfectly bizarre.
